About Jennifer

I’m Jennifer Speer- a wife, mother, sister, daughter, teacher, doula, placenta specialist, seamstress, and urban homesteader. I’m passionate about birth, nutrition, music, creating, researching, learning, and mothering. I was born and raised here in Dallas and love to travel and learn about other people, places, and cultures (though I haven’t gone anywhere much since having kids) but always come home to Texas.

My formal and practical educations as an educator have qualified me to teach children and young adults alike, and I’ve worked as both a secondary and a preschool teacher. My birth education began with deep researching initiated during my first pregnancy. It was after birthing my daughter in 2011 (a hospital birth) that I then trained through DONA as a birth doula. I soon after apprenticed with a seasoned encapsulator and added that skill set to my repertoire. Since then, I’ve attended many births and served mothers in all kinds of birthing settings with all kinds of both complications and variations of normal. I also added to my own family with my second child, my son, born at home in 2014 (birth video here: https://vimeo.com/97457815). And our family grew again in December 2016 with the birth of our third child (view the birth video here: https://www.facebook.com/birthisbeautifulcapturedbyina/videos/1389580357783857/).

Serving mothers and families is one of my true callings, and I am deeply honored when a family allows me to be a small part of their sacred journey as they grow. It is my hope that I can continue on this path of service for a long time.
